Together. Safer. Party.

The website for the campaign „GEMEINSAM.SICHER.FEIERN.“ is intended to encourage and invite people to engage with awareness. We understand the term ‘awareness’, as a mindful interaction with one another, sensitive to any discrimination. Whether it’s a bar, pub, concert, party, or festival: these places and events are meant to be open and welcoming spaces. Places like these allow us to take a break from daily life, experience a sense of freedom, pleasure, and enjoyment. However, not everyone has a chance at ‘feeling free’. Our society is made up of structures that divide and exclude certain individuals or groups of people. Even spaces designed as a place for social interaction, parties or cultural happenings, inequalities that come with these should not be overseen. In these spaces people can experience discrimination, conflict, dispute, and even violent, hurtful behaviour. Therefore, it is an important concern to empower those affected, and reduce discriminatory experiences at parties and in clubs, and to aim at protecting victimised people and actively creating a safer space for those affected. Awareness work is important because it enables us as a society, culture lovers, music enthusiasts and party people to create spaces in which we can interact and treat each other with respect. Above all, awareness means to take people experiencing discrimination, seriously. Whilst dealing with sensitive situations like these, the affected need to be shown support by listening to their position, including their point of view into any further decisions. We must be consistent in acting against discrimination, sexism, racism, homophobia and transphobia, and take responsibility. Violence and assault of any kind have no place in our spaces!

Our Campaign

We want to make awareness issues and policy in nightlife visible and informative.

Since November 2018, the awareness campaign GEMEINSAM.SICHER.FEIERN stands for more mindful and attentive clubbing in and around Bremen, in its cultural scene and nightlife.

Organisers, managers, and staff in music venues have been trained to intervene and act in situations of assault, violence, and discrimination.

Guests and visitors know: If I need help and support, I can turn to the staff.

·      at the door

·      behind the bar

·      in the event area

·      to the awareness team

Outlook: the training sessions are planned to be resumed. The idea behind the campaign is to deal with and encompass all areas of the matter of ‘awareness’. This topic will be the focus, promoting conversation and discussion during events. We are looking forward to concerts, readings, performances, and discussions that will take place within these events. The programme is exciting to look upon, and to understand the matter of awareness from different perspectives and viewpoints.

What means ‘Safer Clubbing’ and ‘Safer Spaces’?
By ‘Safer Spaces’ we mean an environment that is supportive, empowering and acts in solidarity. A supportive attitude and an interest in creating and maintaining these ‘Safer Spaces’ are the foundation for safer clubbing. For people to party together as freely and relaxed as possible, other people’s boundaries must always be respected (and, in case of doubt, personal boundaries always overweigh living out one’s supposed personal freedom).

One's own well-being, a feeling associated with a sense of security, and the need or desire to move freely and be by her:himself, has an individual meaning for every person. That is why our well-being within protected spaces is so important. In everyday life and nightlife, we can transform and reinvent ourselves, and live out the many versions of ourselves.

It is important to treat each other with respect, accepting the boundaries of others and to reduce discrimination. We want a way of nightlife that is colourful, imaginative, humane and human. We want partying and dancing to be what gives people this space and freedom, without harming others.
